HURON HIGH SCHOOL

Huron High School, an International Baccalaureate World School, is one of Ann Arbor Public Schools’ three comprehensive high schools, situated on the beautiful banks of the Huron River.  With a diverse school enrollment of over 1,700,  the Huron Music Department offers music classes in band (4), jazz band, choir (4), orchestra (4), guitar, piano, music theory, and music history, serving over 650 students annually.  Huron High School was the first school in Michigan to be honored by the Grammy Foundation and has been honored five times with Grammy Signature School and Gold Awards.

As an International Baccalaureate World School, collaboration is the heartbeat of the school and music department.  The Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, and A Cappella Choir have given a joint presentation on the Ensemble Debut Series at New York’s Carnegie Hall.  This past year, over 240 Huron band and orchestra students gave a six-concert performance tour to thousands of enthusiastic and appreciative audience members in Spain including performances at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and L’Auditori in Barcelona.   Every two years, the Music Department collaborates with the Huron Players, Huron’s student-led theater club, to present a major Broadway musical.  Each May, the music and art departments present a collage concert and art gallery featuring around 400 musicians performing selections of solo and small and large ensemble works, seamlessly integrated into two large musical tapestries, utilizing the unique architectural features of Meyers Auditorium
